16-18 COLLEGE/YOUNG PEOPLE TRAVEL SURVEY

I am writing to inform you that South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) is carrying out research, in partnership with selected schools, sixth forms and colleges, over a 2 week period from Monday 18 April until Friday 29 April.

The Audience

Around 9,500 16-18 year olds attending Thomas Rotherham College, Doncaster College, Barnsley College, Longley Park 6th Form and Notre Dame school will be asked to fill in a short survey that will help SYPTE to understand the current travel behaviour of our younger customers and where they find information relating to public transport, modes and the tickets that they use.

The Aim of the Survey

  • To ensure young people are aware of the range of value-for-money travel options available for their age group, in addition to the child concessionary fare.
  • To find out their views on any barriers to using public transport.
  • To determine what they think are the benefits or restrictions in using and applying for their 16-18 pass.
  • To understand travel patterns and any barriers to using public transport e.g. length of journey/travel time.

Please find attached a copy of the survey for your information.  College_Young_people_survey_final version (3)

The results of the research will help inform the organisation’s youth ticketing plan and help us to meet the needs of, and better communicate with, our younger customers in the future.

If you have a family member, or know a friend with a student aged 16-18 at the schools and colleges we are working with, please encourage them to help shape travel for young people by taking part in our research.  Participants will be entered into a prize draw to win £200 Meadowhall vouchers.
