BT proposes to remove the payphone (the phone box and the equipment) because the phone has had very little use over a significant period of time.  The Council are collating views on the removal of the payphone equipment.

If anyone wishes to comment or object to this proposal, please write to Sheffield City Council as the local planning authority (either to any contact details given on the payphone notice; or direct to Forward & Area Planning Team, Sheffield City Council, Howden House, 1 Union Street, Sheffield, S1 2SH; or tosheffieldplan@sheffield.gov.uk). The deadline is 27th October.

The local planning authority will then consider the comments, alongside other prescribed factors and will publish in draft whether they will be consenting or objecting to the proposal on that basis. If at this stage the Council is consenting to the equipment being removed, local communities still have the opportunity to adopt a traditional red  ‘heritage’ phone box and make them an asset that local people can enjoy.  It’s simple to do directly with BT and costs just £1. http://business.bt.com/phone-services/payphone-services/adopt-a-kiosk/
