Free Saturday afternoon parking for Christmas shoppers

Sheffield Council will offer free parking in the city centre and most district shopping centres from 2pm for the three Saturdays before Christmas this year.

Starting on Saturday 10 December, and also taking place on December 17 and Christmas Eve, shoppers are being reminded they will be able to park for free after 2pm in all Sheffield City Council on and off street parking spaces in the city centre and in the permit parking zones.

Councillor Mazher Iqbal, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Transport, said: “In keeping with previous years, I’m delighted to remind people that there will be free parking in Council-owned parking spaces on the last three Saturdays from 2pm onwards, until Christmas.

“This will support shoppers and businesses across the city and I hope thousands take advantage of this offer to celebrate the Christmas season with us.

“The city centre will have so much going on over the festive season, including the well-established Christmas markets on Fargate, the visiting THORS Viking tipi bar in the Peace Gardens, and a programme of festive family events happening in the Moor market, this offer will give people even more reason to come into the city and enjoy festivities.”

In Fargate, the Christmas markets and Sleigh Bar is open from 10am to 6pm daily, and will also be open for late-night shopping until 8pm each Wednesday in December.
As well as traders from across the UK and Europe selling a variety of gifts, jewellery, crafts, the market includes a huge range of refreshment stalls selling hot food and drinks.
And in the Moor Market, the Snow Queen and Jack Frost have taken up residence in a fantastic Ice Palace, and will be performing in live shows that combine art, sculpture, music and sound. Shows will run between 11am and 3pm each Saturday before Christmas, as well as on Sunday 18 December. Booking is required.
Other activities for Christmas in the Moor Market include Christmas crafts, winter painting, and learning to play a glass harp.
The Moor Market, fast becoming an even busier part of the city centre as more businesses move in, also offers a wonderful selection of fresh produce and gifts for everyone.
It opens Mondays to Saturdays between 8am and 5.30pm, but will also be open on Sunday 18 December from 10.30am to 4pm.
Maximum stay periods will still apply and drivers are asked to check signs and observe any local restrictions.
