RUN SHEFFIELD RUN! DUATHLON in Hillsborough Park 5th March 2017

The first ever ‘Sheffield Duathlon for Age UK’ will take place in Hillsborough Park on Sunday 5th March 2017 10am-4pm with two exciting races plus activities, stalls, music and fun throughout the day for the whole family.

The entire day is a fundraising event in aid of Age UK Sheffield and 100% of proceeds raised will go directly to the charity and stay in Sheffield, helping local people.

MORNING EVENT: GO-TRI DUATHLON (supported by British Triathlon Federation) An introduction to multisport or a target towards your new year’s resolution of getting fitter! This Duathlon is perfect for beginners or first timers to intermediates. The first run is 2.5km, followed by a 5km, traffic-free bike ride, finishing with another 2.5km run. All participants will receive a medal for their efforts and we ask for a minimum of £30 sponsorship to be raised.
AFTERNOON EVENT: FAMILY DUATHLON Fed up of spending the whole weekend indoors? Fancy trying something different and get active? Want to get do something memorable with the family? Then sign-up to take part in the Family Sheffield Duathlon for Age UK. No matter your age, physical ability or if you have zero experience of sporting challenges – this event is for anyone and everyone! Make it a fantastic family day out by getting outdoors and doing something completely different whilst raising money for an amazing cause. The first run/walk/jog/skip is 1km, next will be the 2km traffic-free bike ride, finishing with another 1km run/walk/jog/skip. All participants will receive a medal for their efforts and we ask for a minimum of £30 sponsorship to be raised per group. You will create your sponsorship page through The race will start at 1pm. Talbot Trust Grant – funding for groups and small organisations

The two main  programmes of work for 2017/18 are:

  • Physical wellbeing of people with Mental Health issues
  • Nutrition and isolation issues in Older People

As well as individual applications, we welcome joint applications from small charities that show evidence of a collaboration/partnership approach by putting forward a business case to work with another charity.

We seek to fund each project within the region of £2,000 – £5,000

In addition to the two main programmes of work:

 An opportunity has arisen for an Extinguisher Maintenance Technician to join our Technical Services team.

Reporting into the Technical Services Manager, you will be responsible for undertaking periodic scheduled and ad hoc inspection, maintenance and replacement of fire extinguishers and hoses sited in Local Authority and some private premises.

The role will involve the maintenance and testing of fire fighting equipment, i.e. fire extinguishers, hoses, fire blankets and any other fire fighting medium as may be included in the contract. You will also provide fire safety advice to clients and the community when requested, to include the selection, location and provision of fire fighting equipment where appropriate.

You must hold a full current driving license as the role will involve travelling to various sites across South Yorkshire. You will also need to demonstrate previous experience in basic administration and ordering and maintaining stock levels and have a general understanding of Health & Safety in the Workplace.

The possession of a BAFE qualification (British Approvals for Fire Equipment) or equivalent is desirable as is experience of checking and testing Fire Extinguishers.
