‘Love Sport’ groups launched in Sheffield Libraries

Four ‘Love Sport’ groups, for men aged 50 and over, are relaunching in libraries across Sheffield this spring.

  • Stocksbridge Library, Manchester Road, S36, 1DH. Every Friday from March 31st, 10.30am -12noon.
  • The Learning Zone, Parson Cross Library, Wordsworth Avenue, S5 8NL.  Every Monday from 3rd April 10.30am-12noon.
  • Central Library, Surrey Street, S1 1XZ.  Every Thursday from 13th April 10am-12noon.
  • Firth Park Library, 443 Firth Park Road, S5 6QQ.  Every Wednesday from 26th April, 3-4.30pm.

The free groups will meet weekly and provide a place for sports fans to reminisce about past sporting events and talk about current ones, with biscuits and hot drinks provided.

‘Whether it’s football, cricket, boxing, horse racing, snooker or athletics, if you love sport these groups are for you,’ says Panni Loh of Ignite Imaginations, who are supporting the groups with funding from South Yorkshire Housing and Age Better in Sheffield.

‘The groups will be led by one of our facilitators, and will have access to resources from the Sporting Memories Network.  Any man aged 50+ would be very welcome to join the group at any point, just drop in and say hello.’

The format of the groups will be flexible, depending on the interests of the men who come along.  They could include quizzes, sessions focused on particular sports, researching sports events or catching up with the latest sports news with like-minded people.
