Pop up Cafe in Broomhall

13 Feb

February see’s the launch of community food project Blend’s pop up cafe in Longley and Broomhall. Running weekly on a Monday at the Longley 4 Greens community centre on Southey Avenue and on a Tuesday at the Broomhall Centre, Broomspring Lane, Broomhall, the cafés will be serving a range of hot and cold breakfasts and lunches to eat in or take away. The cafes will be using the best of local produce while taking inspiration from around the world for all their dishes. Dishes will range from chorizo and red pepper beans on toast and vegetable Laksa to bacon butties and cottage pie.

The cafes will also be providing training and practical experience for participants on Blend’s community café training programme. The training provides support to people looking for either paid employment or who want to volunteer in their local communities. Funded by the Big Lottery, the programme provides participants with a food hygiene training, 1 to 1 careers advice and practical experience of working in catering setting. Since beginning in January of this year, the programme is working with 20 Sheffield residents with plans to recruit more participants as the cafes expand. The income from the cafes will contribute to the ongoing running of Blend’s free employment and health and wellbeing activities. For more information on the cafes and the other activities Blend provides please visit  , or call 07468417353 between 10 and 4 Monday to Friday.

Age Better in Sheffield – Innovation Fund 2017

10 Jan

From April 2017 the second round of tendering for the Age Better Sheffield Innovation Fund will take place.

To support this process we are running three workshops. These will provide you with more information about Age Better Sheffield and the wider Ageing Better programme. However, they will also provide you with some opportunities to learn about different ways of working and create time for you to meet other people from across the sector.

We have three workshops available.

  • Discover – this half day session will take place on Friday 27th It will run in the morning and the afternoon and will share emerging learning from the Ageing Better programme and a brief introduction to Service Design Thinking (numbers are limited to 30 each session, 60 in total)

  • Collaboration – this half day session will take place on Monday 13th It will run in the morning and afternoon and will provide a structured opportunity for a variety of organisations to consider how they could collaborate to increase innovation in Ageing Better (numbers are limited to 30 each session, 60 in total)

  • Design Thinking – this full day session will take place on Friday 10th March and will use service design thinking to help organisations develop a project to tackle social isolation in older people. A limited number of people who attend this session will have the option to apply for a small amount of funding to help them prototype their ideas. They will also have access to ongoing support through workshops and one to one sessions to help them develop their ideas further, regardless of whether they receive prototype funding (numbers are limited to 25 for this session).

Spaces will be provided on a first come, first served and in the first instance organisations are limited to one participant per organisation. You can book onto the one session that interests you most or all three.

You will still be eligible to tender for the Innovation Fund regardless of whether you participate in these sessions or not.

Both sessions are identical so you need only sign up for one
