Space Chase is Go!

Join the Summer Reading Challenge

This year’s Summer Reading Challenge is an out of this world adventure inspired by the 50th anniversary of the first moon landing.

Children taking part will help our super space family, the Rockets, as they track down books nabbed by mischievous aliens!  Sign up at your local library.

We’ve also lots of space themed activities taking place all summer.

Next week you can build a rocket, make a dreamcatcher, learn circus skills, create alien masks, enjoy family table top gaming and lots more – it’s all happening at Sheffield Libraries!

Upper Hanover Playground Workday

Local volunteers came together this morning to support the Broomhill & Sharrow Vale ward Councillors, the Sheffield Councils Parks & Countryside’s officers, the City ward Councillors, volunteers from the Jesus Centre and South Yorkshire Police to brighten up the Upper Hanover playground.

Councillor Kaltum Rivers and Andrew Machin (Sheffield Council) had organised the workday where volunteers assisted with the painting of the swings and fences and a litter pick.  Councillor Kaltum Rivers quoted, ‘it is very important for the community to be involved in local activities as such where the area is improved with the support from local people’.

The workday was a success.  The local community can now enjoy using the playground which looks newer, cleaner, and fresher.

One Sheffield Many Cultures

Sheffield celebration of Our World In One City

One Sheffield Many Cultures Youth Festival will be showcasing talent from school’s across the city in association with Migration Matters festival.

The One Sheffield Many Cultures free festival takes place from 11am to 3pm in Barkers Pool on Saturday June 15.

The festival which brings together young people from across Sheffield to celebrate the city’s cultural diversity is set to be the biggest and best yet.

A total of 10 schools have already said they will perform at the event, which showcases song, dance and drama with short contributions from people in the faith community, trade unions and multicultural campaigns.

One Sheffield Many Cultures spokesperson Abdul Gooljar said: “We launched the festival to celebrate the contribution of our young people to our great multicultural city and it has been marvellous to see how it has grown.

“We hope that the number of people spending a few minutes or even longer to watch the performances will also increase as more families and individuals give their support to the youngsters taking part and celebrate the city’s diversity.”
